Joining the gym #smed12

I always believed that I was fit until the day I joined the gym. After the first week I discovered what a huge commitment it was joining the gym. Especially dragging yourself to gym on these cold winter nights is such a mission.

It was scary seeing all the fitness freaks working out around  me. This when I could not even manage the treadmill properly. On my first day i was on the treadmill for 6 minutes and then I was out of breath.  It didn’t help much having all the fitness freaks gymming next to you, that is extremely intimidating.

Not to mention those who don’t wear proper gym clothing or that use the equipment longer than 30minutes at a time. What happened to gym etiquette Lol

But just as I thought I could handle the whole getting fit business at the gym then I had a few sessions with a personal trainer. That was an experience I will never forget. That was working out on an extreme level. It was an hour of very intense gymming, the treadmill, cycling, aerobics even push-ups.

I never thought I would enjoy going to the gym, especially now that I have way more energy and I have a routine and I work out four times a week. It has helped relieve so much stress, I feel healthier and I have more energy than ever before.

It’s a huge commitment but it’s great to be fit and look after your health. Now I need to become more conscious of what I eat though.....

What is the difference between living and existing? #smed12

I’ve always considered myself as someone that is living life to the fullest, someone that has a purpose, and that is trying to make a difference. Whether it’s at work, Technikon, at home or even in church. Being able to do something worthwhile and learning new things as I go along.

If you exist you are considered as someone that is just there. You are waiting for things to happen and not doing anything to make it happen. It’s like you have no purpose, no ambition no drive or passion towards life. I know it’s easier to exist but when you live you can actually make things happen.

When you are blessed to face another day, you have to thank the Lord for his mercy and blessings upon you. You have to then rise, smile and live life. You have to dream and make sure it manifests into reality. Like they say you only live once, so make the most of the chance you have.

Life oh Life.....

Do you think crying is a sign of weakness or strength? #smed12

Crying can really do wonders for a person. I feel so much better after I have shed a few tears. It’s really a natural response to certain feelings. The best is when you shed tears of joy, which I do when I’m truly happy or overwhelmed. I cry but it’s almost like an introduction to the smile that’s yet to follow lol. (like when I got my drivers licence)

I’ve encountered several instances where we I didn’t have control over my tears, if I hear or see something that stirs up emotion I cry because it has really touched my heart. I believe that crying does have an emotional purpose. It’s a way to release a buildup of emotions whether it be sadness, frustration, hectic day at work, physical pain or even happiness.

It’s good to cry from time to time it definitely lowers stress and releases so many feelings and it contributes towards good health.
That is why crying can be seen as a strength and as a weakness.

For the love of the game #smed12

It’s the rugby season so that means it’s Newlands time again. The spirits are high on a cold Saturday morning while we are getting ready for the match between the DHL Stormers and the Lions. I'm extremely excited with my grand stand tickets in a safe place lol The rugby spirit is all over Cape Town at every traffic light you see people selling a Stormers cap, scarf, flags or t-shirts (and it even looks like an original).

Then we get to Groote Schuur High school. DHL Stormers supporters everywhere. People celebrating before the rugby match with a drink or two while braaing and getting their spirits high before the match. People from different backgrounds, races and religions sharing the rugby spirit on this cold winters day.

It’s amazing how we can stand together for sport. It seems like it’s the only time we can somehow look past colour, religion and background. Just for the love of the game and thereafter everything goes back to normal.Luckily the Stormers won the match and  fans could celebrate even after the match.

It’s a pity we can’t always stand together as a nation, but rather for the love of the game.

A skill set called leadership #smed12

This is a skill that only a few people have. I firmly believe that most people are born leaders. Others make sure they learn the skills to become good leaders. A leader is someone that can lead others and you need to have the right personality. You must be committed and have the drive and vision to make things happen. It’s someone that can set and achieve goals while giving others direction.

Leaders can motivate and contribute to a project at the same time.Completing tasks with integrity helping his/her team move together towards the goal. All of us do have a few characteristics of leadership some are just better in it than others.

My favourite leader of all time is Mr Nelson Mandela. He is a true legend and one of the most respected leaders in the world.

Leaders are seen as people that can change the world and work hard to make a difference. But it takes followers to help have a good leader. A leader without followers is nothing.

Rock Journalism is people who cant write interviewing people who cant talk for people who cant read” (Frank Zappa)- comment.#smed12

I love music R&B, Hip-hop and Jazz but I don’t listen to rock music at all. I don’t know much about rock artists either. I respect Rock artists for their talent and unique music style and lyrics. They have a very unique way of expressing their talent. They are known as the artists who have taken the chance to be different and moving away from the musical norms.

The reporters that interview Rock artists have to interpret their music. They try to understand the message conveyed through their music. I don’t really agree with Frank Zappa that is his opinion. People feel different about all types of music. It is rather difficult for me to form an opinion on something I don’t know anything about.

Rock star music is different and therefore rock star interviews are different as well. The rock star audiences will be able to relate to the journalists interviews and stories about their music. Different strokes for different folks. Journalists will always write about rock music because there will always be rock stars, bands, rock music and a market for their music.

So let Rock Music be…..
