Missing the 2010 world cup spirit #smed12

2010 the awesome year of the Soccer World Cup. The countdown for South Africa as the host city. The incredible opportunity to show the world we can do it as a country and stand together as a nation. It was surely the best 32 days as a Capetonian and as a proudly South African citizen.

Everything was different during the world cup. The unity and the spirit of the people. A incredible fan walk presenting the different cultures and people all over Cape Town. Green and yellow Bafana Bafana t-shirts all over the city, not forgetting the vuvuzela’s blowing every 2 minutes. People singing and dancing to the World Cup song memorizing the lyrics of Waka Waka. We were proud of Freshly Ground for representing our country globally.

A fantastic public transport system, low crime rate with a major boost for the infrastructure and the economy of our cities. Children playing soccer in the townships, ready to show the world our passion for the sport.

All South Africans united, irrespective of their age, race or culture. For 32 days we became a loving nation. If only we could have kept that spirit alive.
